Celebration Barn ResidencyHaving served as the Summer Manager of the Celebration Barn Theater in 2013, I was especially pleased to return as a Resident Artist in 2018, the summer after graduating from the UArts / Pig Iron Devised Performance Program.
During this week-long "show incubation" residency, collaborator Devin Preston and I set about expanding an outstanding work we had created in graduate school along with collaborator Sarah A. Gardner: a comedy set in the Old West, featuring characters performed in half-mask, a style similar to the Commedia dell'Arte. (Learn more about that project by clicking here.) We succeeded in creating exciting new material—inspired in part by expressive new masks I made for project. And even though the Celebration Barn doesn't ordinarily include work from the residency in their regular Saturday performance series, we were invited to perform one of our newly created pieces, Seamus & Bumpus, as part of their long-running and beloved variety show, The Early Evening Show hosted by Celebration Barn stalwart Mike Miclon.
